Founder Series - Satya Shankar founder of The Bindu House

It was one chill evening when I spotted the poster of TiE Mangalore. Looked super interesting, so I pulled my buddy Satya along and we decided to check it out. Our plan was simple explore the EG workspace and maybe meet a few new people.

We reached MindSpace, Yeyyadi, and honestly, the vibe there was just wow. The place looked straight out of a developer’s dream cool work desks, creative setup, and an energy that made me feel like I was already part of some big tech team.

The event was on the terrace, and it was super aesthetic. The lobby itself gave off 5 star vibes ferns hanging from the ceiling, cozy chairs, classy doors, and oh, a whole range of snacks waiting for us (unexpected). To top it all off, one of my seniors joined us and made the evening even better by introducing us around and showing us the workspace properly. Honestly, it turned out to be such a wholesome experience.

So if I have to talk about the chat with Satya Shankar, he was a man of few words. He didn’t seem like someone from an agricultural background or an auto driver. His speech was so well composed, and even being from Puttur, I was amazed (as I’m from Malnad, I know the language used, lol). The moderator started with the establishment of the House of Bindu, but wait the most shocking thing was that he never had an investor. He started his business with a loan from a bank! That was crazy to imagine as an entrepreneur :(

Then the moderator took it to the advertising part how Bindu doesn’t give ads on TV but does it by painting on the walls of houses. Actually, even I had observed it a lot of times. Whenever I was about to enter a city, on the outskirts I used to see Bindu Jeera ads painted on walls and used to wonder how it worked. But this man, the way he answered, was on the mark. He said, people don’t watch ads on TV they just change the channel when ads start. So what’s the point of putting it there? But when you paint, it’s low-cost, long-term, and effective.

The chat went further, and the next question was about family like what he thinks about his future generations entering the business. His answer changed my contradictory mindset. He said, kids see what we show. If we go home and show that we are frustrated with work or always talk about problems, no one is going to care about the business and they’ll run away from it. So we need to be truly passionate about our business and genuinely committed to it.

Next, the talk was about the expansion of business abroad. He said, we are not yet full-fledged in our motherland itself, so why do we need to go abroad? The maximum population is in India and China why settle our branch in another country when we have our own land and people? This honestly won my heart.

Last but not least, he was asked about his motivation. He said, anyone who is about to start should first have a little knowledge about what he is doing. He should also give a good quality product because if he is confident in his product, he can blast it in the market. Also, patience and faith are the only things required to be a good entrepreneur!

In short, he proved Manasa, Vacha, Karmana and got his fruit as a 1000crore company! Hats off to that man!!

Thats all for this blog Amy :)
